TMI NHS donates to SARead’s Book Bank

Members of the TMI Episcopal chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) collected more than 1,000 books to donate to SAReads, a project of Literacy San Antonio that operates a Book Bank to supplement area classroom libraries.
NHS Secretary Melody Umsted and members Hannah Allen, Dylan Pegg and Caroline Vassar delivered two full bins of books Nov. 17 to the Book Bank, located at the Gulfdale branch of Firstmark Credit Union. Donated by TMI students, faculty and families, the new and gently used books included children’s, young adult and adult titles.

TMI has had a chapter of National Honor Society since 1930 and was one of the first private schools in the United States to be granted a charter. The nationwide organization recognizes outstanding high-school students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service and character. National Junior Honor Society is an affiliated organization for middle-level students.

The SAReads Book Bank works to eradicate book deserts by collecting, cleaning and sorting books for redistribution. Since 2010, the Book Bank has given more than 300,000 books to students, teachers, schools and nonprofit organizations in Bexar County.
MISSION: TMI provides an exceptional education with values based on the teachings of Jesus Christ that challenge motivated students to develop their full potential in service and leadership.
