Flag Etiquette at TMI

Respecting the US Flag at TMI: On-Campus Flag Etiquette
Members of the TMI Corps of Cadets raise and lower the US flag on every school day. The Cadet Color Guard also presents the Colors at all Pass In Review ceremonies, many sports events, and other local events. Please show the proper respect for the flag by adhering to the etiquette described below.

  • While the flag is being raised or lowered everyone on campus is expected to show respect by stopping in place, not talking, and placing their right hand over their heart until the flag is completely raised or lowered. If in a vehicle, the occupants should remain in the vehicle and stationary until the flag is completely raised or lowered.

  • When the US flag is presented during sporting events everyone should stand, remove any hats, and place their right hand over their heart until the National Anthem ends.

  • During Pass In Review ceremonies and parades everyone should stand, remove any hats, and place their right hand over their heart while the Colors pass in front of them.
