TMI students brief Rotary on leadership conference

TMI Episcopal juniors Bridget Lynch and Annie Notzon spoke to the April 10 meeting of the Dominion Rotary Club about their experiences at the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Conference (RYLA), held Jan. 12-15 at the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch in New Braunfels. The Dominion Rotary Club sponsors two students from TMI every year to attend RYLA.
Both students were nominated by TMI to represent their school at the conference, an opportunity for high-school juniors to develop leadership skills. Guest speakers who are seasoned educators make presentations and conduct hands-on interactive sessions in trust, cooperation, communication and teamwork. After each presentation, students meet in small groups with peer team leaders to discuss the topics and their views or practice a related exercise. A workshop on effective leadership in and out of school.

Lynch was awarded the All Star Award from her team, which won first place for the Most Creative wall-hanging mosaic and placed third in the RYLA Olympics, a series of activities that teach team building and problem solving.

“The programs allowed me to grow as a leader, as a colleague and as a person,” said Lynch. “I became more aware of encouraging and leading all sorts of people and personalities, and I look forward to using the skills and insights I acquired to share with our TMI community.”
MISSION: TMI provides an exceptional education with values based on the teachings of Jesus Christ that challenge motivated students to develop their full potential in service and leadership.
