TMI students named National Merit finalists

Three seniors at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas have been named finalists in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship competition.
Elizabeth Holmes, Alexandra Prado and Hannah Wool, recognized during daily chapel March 8, are now eligible to become recipients of National Merit scholarships, to be announced later this spring.

Holmes is a state-champion swimmer, a peer mentor, three-time winner of the school’s Poetry Out Loud contest and was named Best Speaker at a Model UN Conference. She plans a career in the biomedical field.

Prado is also a peer mentor, has won Scholastic Art Awards, performed leading roles in school theater productions and is a contributor to the school literary magazine. She plans to study psychology.

Wool has completed the highly selective, three-year Voelcker Biomedical Research program at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She plans to study biomedical engineering.

About 1.5 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2017 National Merit Program by taking the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Semifinalists in the college-scholarship program, notified last fall, represented less than one percent of all U.S. high-school seniors. To continue in the program, semifinalists were required to maintain superior academic standing, achieve SAT scores that confirmed their performance on the earlier test, write an essay and receive recommendation from a school administrator. About 15,000 of the 16,000 semifinalists were named finalists.
MISSION: TMI provides an exceptional education with values based on the teachings of Jesus Christ that challenge motivated students to develop their full potential in service and leadership.

TMI Episcopal admits students of any race, color, and national or ethnic origin.
