TMI freshmen will participate in Great Debate

Four TMI Episcopal freshman were inducted into the National Hispanic Institute (NIH) on Feb. 16 in the International Conference Center of the University of the Incarnate Word. Reagan Davis, Kailey Kessler, Jake Kilbride and Anaya Zachery were chosen along with about 80 other students representing 24 high schools in the San Antonio area.
These ninth graders will participate in the Great Debate, an annual NIH program, to be held July 25-28 at the University of Texas at Austin. This semester, they are preparing for the debate by spending their Saturdays in a residential leadership experience held at Incarnate Word and St. Mary’s University, with community leaders who volunteer to help the students develop skills in communications, critical and analytical thinking, multicultural awareness and public speaking-0.

The National Hispanic Institute is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the future leadership needs of the global Hispanic community. Since 1981, NHI has worked with more than 95,000 high-achieving students, supporting experiences to help them reach their full potential as community leaders. The San Antonio chapter of NHI sponsors not only the Great Debate but the Lorenzo De Zavala Youth Legislative Session for high-school sophomores and juniors and the Collegiate World Series to prepare 11th-grade alumni of NIH programs for the college applications process.
