Victoria Flener, a senior at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, was one of 74 area students chosen to receive a Valero Alamo Bowl scholarship to the colleges of their choice.
Recipients from public and private schools were honored at the Valero Alamo Bowl Scholarship Awards Luncheon, presented by H-E-B on Dec. 14, 2016, at Sunset Station and were recognized on the field during the first quarter of the Alamo Bowl, held Dec. 29, 2016, in the Alamodome. Their awards will total $575,000, anticipated to be the top mark in local scholarship giving among all 40 bowls.
The scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement, teacher recommendations and involvement in extracurricular activities; a strong preference is given to students excelling in varsity sports.
Flener, a member of the National Honor Society who plays varsity softball, plans to attend Texas A&M University.
The mission of TMI is to provide an excellent educational community, with values based on the teachings of Jesus Christ, challenging motivated students to develop their full potential in service and leadership.
