Technology at TMI: Our Philosophy

At TMI, we believe in the potential of technology to enhance learning and teaching. Students must develop skills in creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and digital literacy that better prepare them to be successful citizens of the global community. To bring more technology tools into our classrooms and leverage student-owned devices, TMI Episcopal has implemented a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) laptop program. All students in grades 6-12 are required to bring a laptop computer to school each day. Laptops have far more access compared to mobile devices and will expose students to integrated digital tools that will prepare them for future success. This model will allow students and teachers to consistently use technology as a tool for learning, exploration, and organization.

TMI will not require students to own a specific brand or type of operating system. Rather, the TMI Technology Department, in collaboration with the Academic Technology Committee, has compiled a list of broad specifications for student laptop devices. Please see the "Printable BYOD Specs & Program (PDF)" link on this page for details.
Technology tools help to develop social intelligence, communication, and digital citizenship. As such, TMI is committed to thoughtful investment in technology, with a robust infrastructure that supports the education of our students as digital citizens with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary for their well-being and success.

  • We acknowledge that...

Simply adding technology will not transform teaching and learning. The implementation of a BYOD laptop program requires a transformation in the learning experience. The overall goal of technology integration at TMI is to accelerate learning by providing opportunities for students to think and work creatively. When used purposefully, technology has the potential to support and scaffold student learning thereby promoting balance. Ultimately the vision is for our students to use technology not just for consumption, but for the construction of knowledge.
  • Looking ahead...

Today’s students demand an educational structure that allows them to practice 21st century skills for jobs that have not yet been created. They need to be given the opportunity to practice authentic problem-solving and produce real-world work. The BYOD laptop model supports a student-centered environment at TMI, empowering students to utilize technologies to communicate, collaborate, and create.
