Jessica Cox, a rising senior at TMI Episcopal, completed the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA) Summer Seminar, held June 9-14 on campus in Annapolis, Md.
For high-achieving students between their junior and senior years of high school, the program introduces prospective applicants to life at the Academy with a week of academics, athletics, and professional training. Students who successfully complete the Summer Seminar may go on to apply for USNA admission the following year.
Participants live on campus, are taught by Academy faculty and led in group workouts by midshipmen (current Academy students) and other Navy personnel. A highlight of the week is Sea Trials, seven hours of rigorous Physical Training (PT) including Military Gear PT and Wet and Muddy PT. They select from a variety of courses; Cox chose to study Ethics and Character Development, Chemistry, Guided Missile Cruise Simulator, Shipboard Damage Control, Martial Arts and Yard Patrol Craft Cruise (a comprehensive campus tour).
At TMI, Cox is a member of the Texas Military Institute Corps of Cadets. As a member of the varsity swim team, she earned a silver medal at the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) 2018 championships and was named to an all-state honor team for the 2017-2018 season.
