TMI Episcopal’s Howell field is the winner of a Fields of Excellence Award from Pioneer Athletics, a Cleveland, Ohio-based manufacturer of field equipment.
The nationwide program recognizes schools and communities for outstandingly well-maintained sports fields. Applicants are judged on mowing and overall maintenance, striping and original designs. Assistant Athletic Director Chris Nelson is responsible for the care of TMI’s Howell Field, on which Panther football is played, as well Kolitz Field for baseball and softball and multipurpose fields.
The contest is open to colleges, public and private schools, parks and recreation departments and community centers. TMI was one of 91 winners out of more than 500 applicants, the only one in the San Antonio area among 10 other Texas winners.
“Preparing a field takes a lot of hard work and dedication,” said TMI Athletic Director Becky Geyer. “Chris is a leader in field management. His passion and attention to detail are second to none.”
