TMI Family Association grants new-faculty wishes

The Family Association of TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas presented grants for new teachers or those teaching new courses Sept. 12 during daily chapel.
Association President Dalia Bryan gave certificates for awards totaling $6,500 for the purchase of classroom and other needs to:
  • English teacher Kelly Janis, for a subscription to BrainPop, a website with videos, interactive activities and quizzes 
  • Science teacher/Outdoor Education Co-director Sherry Lim, for a full, simulated skeleton to be used in Life Science, Biology and Anatomy and Physiology classes and bat houses for the school garden to help students learn about natural pest control and fertilizer 
  • Fine Arts teacher Victoria Luna, for specialized anime papers, markers and colored pencils for the new Animation 1 course 
  • History teacher Kristian Marks, for a world map wall mural as a teaching aid for Human Geography, Middle East Studies and U.S. History courses 
  • Fine Arts teacher Hannah Cooper McCauley, for digital drawing and painting tablets that are more efficient and ergonomic than using a mouse with graphic design software, to be used in Photography and Digital Arts courses. 
  • Science teacher Skyler Saucedo, for a 3D printer to be used in the new Engineering course and by the Middle School and Upper School Robotics teams 
This distribution of awards adds a third round of grants to the Family Association’s program, with the aim of encouraging innovation among new and returning faculty. Grants from teacher wish lists also are given out at faculty appreciation luncheons at the end of each semester.

Every TMI parent or guardian is a member of the Family Association, which reaches out to new families, enhances communication within the school, sponsors community events and raises funds to support its activities and to purchase items that benefit the TMI community.

The Dominion Rotary Club sponsors two students from TMI every year to attend RYLA.
