Three seniors from TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas have been named finalists in the National Merit Scholarship competition. Hector Castillo, Saad Ehsan and Grace Westerman are now eligible for merit awards, to be announced in March.
About 1.5 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2016 National Merit Program by taking the 2014 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Semifinalists in the college-scholarship program, notified last September, represented less than one percent of all U.S. high-school seniors. To continue in the program, semifinalists were required to maintain superior academic standing, achieve SAT scores that confirmed their performance on the earlier test, write an essay and receive recommendation from a school administrator. About 15,000 of the 16,000 semifinalists were named finalists.
The mission of TMI is to provide an excellent educational community, with values based on the teachings of Jesus Christ, challenging motivated students to develop their full potential in service and leadership.
