Experience life as a San Antonio boarding school student!

Welcome to TMI's Boarding Program. Located in San Antonio, we are a boarding school with day students and offer both 5-day and 7-day boarding options, which emphasize academic excellence and international cooperation. We welcome boarders from all over the globe and we are a professional community who can help your child develop academically and spiritually. The Boarding Program at TMI is open to students in grades 8-12.
The Mission of TMI’s Residential Life boarding
school program is to create a safe, nurturing and inclusive community where students of diverse backgrounds work collaboratively to develop their potential as servant leaders, explore their personal identities, excel academically, and grow spiritually with values based on the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Our program is intentionally smaller than many other schools, but this offers many advantages:
  • Twenty dorm parents look after between 50 and 60 dorm students. Most of these dorm parents are also faculty, so there are many opportunities for students to be given assistance both in study hall and at other times during the day.
  • The skill set of the dorm parents is multi-faceted. The Dorm Parent body also includes teachers of chemistry, math, Spanish, history, Latin, physics, calculus, precalculus, algebra, biology, environmental science, and religion. The Director of College Placement is a dorm parent.
  • We are a very close-knit community. All dorm parents get to know all of the dorm students. No child gets left behind and so this is a community where small problems do not turn into big problems.
  • Our prefect program offers opportunities for students to have leadership roles in the dormitory from 10th grade onwards.
  • The dorm parents see their role here as a lifestyle choice, rather than a job. They are willing to go the extra mile to help students.
  • The dorms themselves have been built with safety in mind. All dorms have intruder alarms and the campus is locked at night. We also have 24-hour manned security on campus.

Working Hard

Mondays through Fridays are an intense and busy time for the students, and we support their academic endeavor by having proctored study hall on Sunday through Thursday, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. We also understand that all of this hard work uses energy, so there are snacks available in the dorms from 3:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on every weekday. This also gives the students time to meet informally with dorm parents.

We understand that students need downtime on the weekends, but they also need activities which will not only stimulate them, but also allow them to grow emotionally as Servant Leaders. Therefore, we offer a comprehensive weekend activity program, which includes both community service events, as well as events which are purely entertaining.

Examples of weekend activities from the last few years include:
  • Habitat for Humanity build
  • Haven for Hope
  • Six Flags Fiesta Texas
  • Sea World, San Antonio
  • Symphony Concert at the Tobin Center
  • San Antonio Spurs Game at the AT&T center
  • Volunteer work at the San Antonio Half Marathon
  • Overnight visit to the Coast at Corpus Christi
  • Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels
