TMI announces Hall of Fame inductees

TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas has announced its first Hall of Fame nominees for the 2016-2017 school year. Alumni, former faculty and other friends of TMI are recognized within one of the Four Pillars of a TMI education: Academics, Athletics, Military and Spirituality.
In Academics, William Hubbard, Ph.D., a member of TMI’s class of 1958, will be the first alumnus to be inducted. He is an eminent astronomer, a professor of planetary sciences at the University of Arizona who has consulted with NASA, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Specializing in planetary interiors and atmospheres, he was awarded the 2005 Gerard P. Kuiper Prize in Planetary Sciences of the American Astronomical Society and has done significant research on Jupiter, Saturn and EGPs (Extra-solar Giant Planets). He currently is a co-investigator on the Juno spacecraft scheduled to enter Jupiter’s orbit.

Jessica Kimmel, Ed.D., a former TMI English teacher (1984-1990) will receive a Distinguished Servant Leader award in Academics. She served as chairman of the TMI English Department and started a writing lab for students who sought extra help. After TMI, she taught at Texas A&M University, San Antonio College and Trinity University. She retired in 2014 from the University of the Incarnate Word, where she served as director of teacher education, taught in the doctoral program, revitalized the adult education program and won a 2012 Presidential Teaching Award for faculty who “exemplify great character and an excellence in teaching.” Specializing in women’s studies, Kimmel served as a delegate to the United Nations’ Executive Board of the World Congress in 2013 and 2014.

In Athletics, the championship golf teams of 1955 and 1956 will be honored; as will the 1971 football team, which won championships in the two conferences of which TMI was a member at that time. Special recognition will be given to Ricky Palmer, class of 1972, who went on to play college and professional football and has had a distinguished career coaching high-school football. Robert Braubach, who attended with the class of 1967, will be inducted for winning the 1966 tennis singles championship.

Hall of Fame nominees will be presented during the halftime ceremony at TMI’s Oct. 14 Homecoming game. They will be inducted at the Oct. 15 Homecoming Luncheon hosted by the school’s headmaster and the TMI Alumni Association.

Nominees in Military and Spirituality will be inducted at events later in the current school year.

Established in 2015, the TMI Hall of Fame is an honorary society recognizing the exceptional contributions of outstanding alumni, with Distinguished Servant Leader awards for former faculty and friends of the school.
